Fluxus Joins Infrastructure 4.0 Initiative by the World Economic Forum

September 2020

Fluxus joins Infrastructure 4.0 Initiative by the World Economic Forum to accelerate infrastructure’s technological transformation.

“Across sectors, infrastructure remains one of the least technologically advanced in the entire economy. While other industries have wholeheartedly embraced the Fourth Industrial Revolution, infrastructure has lagged behind. However, this is not due to a lack of innovation in the space. In fact, new materials, new processes and new technologies for infrastructure development are flourishing. The problem lies in finding ways adopt these emerging technologies into the way we plan, design, finance, construct and operate infrastructure. A technological transformation of the industry has the potential to, among other things, improve efficiency, safety and quality of projects while decreasing delays, financing gaps and instances of poor planning – all while helping achieve sustainable and resilience goals.

Infrastructure 4.0 is an initiative of the World Economic Forum supported by the Global Infrastructure Hub, a G20 organization focused on driving an ambitious agenda on sustainable, resilient and inclusive infrastructure.

Building on the work of the Forum’s Global Future Council on Infrastructure’s report Transforming Infrastructure: Frameworks for Bringing the Fourth Industrial Revolution to Infrastructure and the GI Hub’s ongoing efforts to support the G20 Riyadh InfraTech Agenda, Infrastructure 4.0 seeks to improve the adoption of emerging technologies across infrastructure lifecycle stages.

It will do this by collecting best practice case examples of the adoption of infrastructure technologies, and by creating a global community that will take deeper dives on the specific issues preventing technology adoption. The case studies will be housed on the GI Hub’s interactive public database and regularly presented to G20 member countries. The global community will work together to address specific issues and produce guidelines.

Partners include Cadenza Innovation, Canada Infrastructure Bank, CEMEX, Centre for Digital Built Britain, Chengdu Xingcheng Investment Group, Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC), Danfoss, Dassault Systèmes, Deltares – Enabling Delta Life, Energy Vault SA, Fluxus, Global Infrastructure Hub, GMR Group, KPMG, Limak Holding, Meridiam, Quantela, Schneider Electric, Signify, Versatile.

This project is part of the World Economic Forum’s Shaping the Future of Cities, Infrastructure and Urban ServicesShaping the Future of Energy and Materials, and Shaping the Future of Technology Governance: IoT, Robotics and Smart Cities Platforms.”
